Students from the South Texas College Student Government Association at the Technology Campus recently completed a hands-on project to improve their school's outdoor spaces. They built and presented two custom picnic tables as part of their annual Beautify Tech with SGA event. The goal was to add functional seating areas while making the campus look more welcoming.
Instead of buying pre-made furniture, the students took on the construction themselves. They designed the tables to fit the specific layout of the campus grounds. The project gave them a chance to learn basic carpentry skills while working together as a team. SGA members spent several days measuring, cutting, and assembling the wood pieces. They also added a coat of paint to match the school's colors.
The finished tables are now placed in high-traffic areas where students often gather between classes. The SGA hopes the new furniture will encourage more students to spend time outdoors on campus. One student leader said the project was a way to leave a positive mark on the school. The event also included other cleanup and landscaping efforts around the Technology Campus. The SGA plans to continue the tradition each year, with new projects aimed at keeping the campus clean and attractive for everyone.
