PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) has taken a significant step towards the responsible use of technology by approving a new Generative AI Use Policy. This policy aims to provide a framework for the ethical integration of artificial intelligence in various county operations.
During their regular meeting on January 14, 2025, the BOCC also announced the formation of an AI Advisory Committee. This committee will consist of experts and stakeholders who will offer guidance on best practices for AI implementation, ensuring that the technology is used in a manner that prioritizes transparency, accountability, and community welfare.
The introduction of this policy reflects a growing recognition of the potential benefits and risks associated with AI technologies. By establishing clear guidelines and a dedicated advisory group, Calvert County aims to harness the advantages of AI while mitigating possible negative impacts on its residents. The move is seen as a proactive measure to prepare for the future of technology in public service.
